Teach Our Young Generation Better: How Do You Speak To Your Children?
Updated: Mar 9, 2018
A few weeks ago, a friend of mines daughter had an horrible experience at school. She had to bare witness to one of the students speaking with another, who called her ‘stupid’.
As you can imagine, this wasn't a pleasant circumstance for her and overall left school
upset. She's explained what happen to her mum and this is how mummy reacted.
Mum: ”Are you stupid?”
Mum: ”If you know you are not stupid, why are you upset?
Please write down 3 things you like about yourself and evident how this is true.”
My friend said ”I got my daughter to do this exercise so that she can realise her strengths and also to reassure myself that I am, moving her in the right direction.
Choices also came to mind, everyone has a choice.”
Mum: ”Is the girl who was mean to you, better than you?”
Mum: ”Are you better than her?”
Mum: ”Noooo, you're not! We are all born the same, it’s the choices in life which we make that will either push us further or keep us in the same place.
You have a choice to sit in class and be upset by something that has been said which you know is not truth (although it hurts) or you can make the choice to keep working so you can get ahead.”
She nailed it!
”You have a choice to sit in class
and be upset by something that has been said which you know is not true
(although it hurts)
or you can make the choice to keep
working so you can get ahead.”
I am, personally inspired by this and believe its a great way to talk and teach our children Inner/Self Strength, Growth, Respect, Leadership and Love. It teaches our children, labels and peoples opinions Do Not Define Them!
This is just a few examples, the possibilities are Truly Limitless.
How do you speak to your child/ren?
How do you reinforce positive encouragement?
How do you teach your child/ren to bounce back and come out stronger?
How do you react as a parent?
